The Studies Speak Volumes
OK, you may have heard about it — don’t sit on your toosh most of the day. Get up and move every hour or stand and do your work. Studies are showing that even if you are pretty good about exercise – say 30 minutes of walking most days, if you sit the rest of the time – BAD, very bad! As in it can shorten your life span.
Hmmm, it didn’t feel so good when I read that because I’d been sitting at a desk job most days for many years. So, since I have more of my own schedule now, I decided to get a treadmill desk (pictured here in my studio). It’s perfect for email, surfing the internet, research, reading, watching a movie. You walk at a slow pace – around 2.5 MPH so it’s slow enough to type if you need to. I purchased this from treaddesk.com, but you can fashion one yourself or find a place to just stand. Even standing is better than sitting.
If I do need to sit to concentrate, I set a timer so that I get up every hour and move around – finish the laundry, or go outside and do a few jumping jacks. Keep it moving. You’ll be happy you did. Read more why moving is important here.
If you already have a treadmill and want to add a “desk,” here’s a simple way to do that.
