This Year in Nutrition: 2013
If you haven’t been to Dr. Greger’s website, NutritionFacts.org, I highly recommend it as a great resource for fast and easy to understand videos about studies in nutrition and health. There are over 2,000 health topics, including (to name a few):
- Blood pressure
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids
- Weight loss
To give you an example of how in-depth each category can get, check out the summary on plant based diets. I counted nearly 90 links to articles and related categories. One could truly get lost for hours, devouring information on the site.
Informative Videos by Dr. Greger
I can’t believe it’s been a year since I posted Dr. Greger’s 2012 video, “Uprooting the Leading Causes of Death” here. The hour-long video touches on the ways to stop and/or reverse 15 of the leading causes of death – including, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes. Not only is it informative and interesting, but Dr. Greger is also quite an entertaining presenter. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend taking the time to watch.
He’s done it again this year, for free I might add, with “More Than an Apple a Day: Preventing Our Most Common Diseases.” As he mentioned in the abovementioned video, due to side-effects of prescription drugs, doctors may actually be the 6th leading cause of death in the United States.
Expanding upon that fact, in this video Dr. Greger takes a look at the top 12 most common reasons people visit the doctor, and explores what can preventatively be done in order to avoid needing to make that visit.
While a heady topic, this entertaining presentation of interesting health and nutrition data may even make you chuckle. His video has had over 1 million views already. Although it’s an hour long, there are many tidbits that will help you stay focused and determined to eat a plant-based diet. Enjoy!
